How To Promote A Web Hosting Business

Web Hosting is both an extremely profitable business to be in - particularly over the long term as you build up your client base - and also an extremely competitive business to be in, in which you can have great trouble finding your niche in the markets and actually getting any clients at all. Many people who start off with a reseller hosting plan who are not really very familiar with the market but are looking for new ways to generate an income for an online business end up giving up without ever having made a single sale!

But yet despite the fact that it is a competitive industry it is still very much possible for a new business to find a place for themselves and generate a good income. It is just that you may well have to look beyond simply relying on google for traffic. Seo and free natural search traffic, as well as paid adverts on Google using AdWords, are both still a possibility that you shouldn’t rule out straight away, but as a new small business you will find it very difficult to compete with the big established players in either of these arenas. So you just have to be creative and look at other ways to get sales.

One way that I have found to be very effective is through banners on other sites. This is particularly effective if you have other websites that you run yourself, and even more so again if they get traffic from people who might be interested in setting up a new website or who already have hosting and may be thinking of switching or upgrading. But you can also pay for advertising like this on other websites. There are so many out there that have free advertising space that if you are willing to put the effort in to find the right ones, and if you can negotiate a good price (which often isn’t much unless it is a very high traffic site), then you can make this strategy work for you.

Another good method is writing articles and publishing them on various third party website with links to your business. That could mean actually writing articles about web hosting, but you can also be quite creative about this, writing articles on many other topics that are related to making money online, web design, online business and so on and on and on, knowing that people with an interest in these topics stand a reasonable chance of being interested in your services.

And my final tip is to buy and sell websites through marketplaces like Flippa. If you sell to newbies there is a very good chance they will accept an offer of a months free hosting for the website they are buying, and will then stay with you as your customer after that.
