If I had a penny for every web hosting service out there, I probably wouldn’t have to work any more. Server space has become so cheap that everybody seems to be providing hosting, but there are vast differences in terms of quality.

I’ve had quite a few web hosts, and I’ve noticed that some definitely care about their customers a lot more than others.

So, what should you look for when picking a web host?

1. Disk Space
You should have at least 5-10Gb of disk space. While that might seem like way too much, videos and large images will quickly eat into that.

2. Bandwidth
Here’s one of the ways that you can end up blowing a lot of money. Some hosts don’t provide unlimited bandwidth, and if you go over your allotted amount, you get charged insane prices. Save yourself the hassle and get a service with unlimited bandwidth.

3. Features
You want PHP and SQL support, as well as email hosting. As your site grows, many of the scripts available on the internet require PHP and/or SQL, and most hosts should provide this as part of the package.

4. Customer Service
Either phone service or online support works. If your site goes down, you want to be able to reach a person quickly, instead of waiting for a call back (yes, some companies actually think you’ll wait to be called back) or an email reply.
