How to Find a Business Web Hosting ProviderPosted September 14th, 2009So you have a business and you have a plan for a website. But without the right web hosting provider, this could prove to be quite a downturn for you. There are all sorts of web hosting companies out there who offer anything like space in the gigabytes, limited number of emails, and a few security features. But if you are not savvy enough, these are just a bunch of useless features that your business can never use. Let’s look at how you can choose the right web hosting company for your business. Space - Okay, space is definitely something that you want to consider. You will probably have a lot of dynamic content on your business website and your web hosting provider should be able to give you enough space so that can accommodate all your content. Remember that content does not just mean text and pictures. You might want to include videos and audio clips to your website to make it more enticing to consumers. Servers - If your business website is going to be static, then you can go with a web hosting provider that uses Linux or Windows. But this is highly unlikely for your business website so go with a server that supports PHP. This is usually a Unix server and you will also need support for ASP and MySQL support. Your webmaster will know exactly what you need once he knows what your site intends to be. Bandwidth - Look for a web hosting provider who will give you the best in data transfer. 1 gig may seem like a lot when you are talking about data transfers; but it’s not. Look for providers who give you 3 times that speed in bandwidth. The formula is simple: the more people who visit and interact with your site, the slower it will become. So be ready. FTP - This is what allows you to upload files to your site or server. Most web hosting providers will give FTP access anyway but it is never too much trouble to ask if they do or not. Also, make sure that you have multiple FTP accounts so that you always have a way of uploading to your site. Control Panel - There are many web hosting providers out there who have control panels that are as difficult to use as our country’s own missile defense system. This is no joke! Look for providers who can give an easy access control panel that is just as easy to manipulate as well. Email - This is a very important communication tool. If you want to give out email addresses with your domain name to customers, then look at the email options that web hosting providers can give. Look at the number of accounts they can provide and if they support POP3 and IMAP protocols. Talk to your webmaster about this. Cost - Lastly, you should look at the prices like any decent shopper will. It is important that you get all the right features for the right cost. Research about what is fair when it comes to pricing for web hosting services. Ask friends and colleagues to gain more insight as well. Bottom line is you should get a good price for what you are getting. Look at the possible web hosting upgrade rates as well in case your business site starts to become successful. Stuart C.
