You Should Back Up Your Website As Often As Possible

Backing up you website is crucial when you are hosting a website. There is nothing worse than having some one hack your website and putting up irrelevant detail and destroying your membership list, that you have worked so hard to build. I know because it happened to me several years ago when I had a small niche dating site.

I had to start my website from scratch again. I was so angry, but it was my fault because I had not backed up my website at least every other day. Now I backup my website every day and down load it on to my computer. The next time some one hacks my website I will be prepared and I will be able to establish it to it’s original form.

How was someone able to hack my website so easily? It was because the config.php file was left at a 777 permission by the person who installed the script. This can happen when there is an install file. This is a no-no. I no long will allow any of my folders or files to be able to be left at 777. What is 777 permission? This is where anyone - the administrator or anyone in the world can write to the folder or file. You will find many scripts that allow people to do this especially scripts that accept banners from people or customers. I prefer to use a different script to accept banners, as this does not allow access to the original or main script.

Backing up your website will help you reinstall your script for any reason. Do not depend upon the hosting company to do it. They have thousands of websites, and most of them do not have the time or inclination to find your website.
